That simplicity is a gift at home and a complication abroad: every other country you work with is offset from you by an amount that, for many of them, shifts twice a year. Planning a session that includes attendees overseas means holding two facts at once — where their clock sits relative to yours today, and whether that gap will move before the session runs.
Because India keeps a constant offset, a recurring class fixed at, say, 18:00 IST will not stay fixed for an attendee in London or New York. When those regions move to daylight saving in spring, the local time of your unchanged IST slot jumps by an hour; it jumps back in autumn. This is the single most common scheduling surprise for Indian organisers running international cohorts. Checking both a summer and a winter date before committing to a recurring slot avoids the half-yearly confusion.
India is nine and a half to eleven hours ahead of the continental United States, depending on the coast and the season. That gap is wide enough that no comfortable slot exists for both sides simultaneously: a working hour in India is the middle of the night in America, and vice versa. The workable compromise is usually an early-evening IST class, which reaches US mornings, accepting that it runs slightly late for India. Where even that fails, the fair move is to pick the least-bad live slot and record the session so the side for whom no time worked can catch up.
Closer zones are far more forgiving. The Gulf is only ninety minutes behind India and observes no daylight saving, so a slot that works in India usually works in Dubai. Singapore and most of Southeast Asia are slightly ahead and equally stable. Europe and the UK sit four and a half to five and a half hours behind, which means an early-evening IST class lands comfortably in the European working afternoon. For sessions confined to India plus these regions, a single sensible slot is almost always findable.
Finding the slot is only half the task. The other half is making sure every attendee sees it in their own clock, not yours, because a time written as "18:00 IST" invites mistakes from anyone who has to convert it themselves. The reliable answer is a calendar invite that carries the time-zone information with it, so each person's calendar renders it locally.
