Blend CIE and SEE into a direct Course-Outcome level, combine it with your indirect survey at any ratio (NBA's common 80:20), then roll Course Outcomes up to Programme Outcomes through an editable CO-PO mapping matrix on the 0–3 scale. Every weight is yours to set. It runs in your browser — nothing is stored, and it never predicts an NBA result.
Enter CIE, SEE and indirect attainment on the 0–3 level scale (3 = highest). Common CIE:SEE splits are 20:80, 25:75, 30:70; NBA's common direct:indirect is 80:20 — all editable, and NBA accepts documented variants.

Indicative figures to help you compile your own OBE files — not an accreditation outcome. Attainment methods, target levels, the CIE:SEE and direct:indirect weights, and the mapping scale are set by your institution and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and may change; confirm the current method with your OBE/NBA committee. This tool calculates levels from your inputs and does not predict any NBA result, nor is it the Self-Assessment Report.
The method
Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is the framework the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) expects every accredited programme to run. It defines Course Outcomes (COs) for each subject and Programme Outcomes (POs) for the degree, then measures how well students achieve them. The chain is layered: assessment scores become CO attainment, the CO-PO mapping turns CO attainment into PO attainment, and those values become the primary evidence in the Self-Assessment Report (SAR).
Each Course Outcome is phrased with a Bloom's Taxonomy action verb — Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyse, Evaluate, Create — that signals the cognitive level being targeted. The Bloom's level also shapes how strongly a CO can legitimately map to a Programme Outcome, which matters when you fill the correlation matrix below.
Direct attainment comes from real student performance. Each CO is tagged to assessment items in both Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) and the Semester End Examination (SEE), and the attainment of each is the share of students who met the CO target — expressed on a 0–3 level. The two are then blended at the proportion in your academic regulations:
Common CIE:SEE splits are 20:80, 25:75 and 30:70 — all valid, depending on the regulations in force. The tool lets you set whichever your programme uses.
Indirect attainment captures student perception, gathered from course-end and exit surveys. Because it reflects opinion rather than measured performance, it carries a smaller weight. NBA's widely used default combines them as 80% direct and 20% indirect:
Institutions may document other ratios such as 70:30 or 90:10, and NBA accepts them when justified — so this weight is editable too.
Every CO is mapped to the POs and Programme-Specific Outcomes (PSOs) it genuinely supports, using a 1–3 correlation strength (1 low, 3 high). A Programme Outcome's attainment is the strength-weighted average of the attainment of the COs that map to it:
Because both the CO levels and the mapping strengths sit on bounded scales, the resulting PO attainment also falls between 0 and 3. A value around 2.2 or higher is generally read as strong alignment, though the actual target is set by your department in consultation with its advisory board.
Attainment is not the end of the exercise. Where a PO falls below target, NBA expects an action plan — revised assessments, more practice on weak units, or a raised target the next time the course runs — and evidence that the gap narrowed. That continuous loop, from outcomes to assessment to attainment to improvement, is exactly what assessors look for in the SAR and during a visit.

From calculator to live system
A calculator handles one course at a time, from numbers you re-key by hand. CampusAlly's academics module tags every assessment item to its CO when marks are entered, computes direct and indirect attainment automatically, applies your CO-PO matrix across all courses, and rolls the results up to programme level — then hands the attainment tables to the accreditation module with the underlying mark sheets attached as proof. The OBE evidence is built continuously through the year instead of reconstructed in a spreadsheet weeks before the SAR is due.

About this calculator
In Outcome-Based Education, Course Outcome (CO) attainment measures how well students achieved each outcome of a course, and Programme Outcome (PO) attainment measures achievement at the degree-programme level. PO attainment is derived from CO attainment through the CO-PO mapping matrix. Both are required evidence in NBA Self-Assessment Report files.
Final attainment is commonly computed as 80% of direct attainment plus 20% of indirect attainment. Direct attainment comes from actual student performance (internal assessments and end-semester exams); indirect attainment comes from course-end or exit surveys. NBA accepts other documented ratios such as 70:30 or 90:10, so the weight is editable in this tool.
Direct attainment blends Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) and Semester End Examination (SEE) at the weight set by your academic regulations — common splits are 20:80, 25:75 and 30:70. Each component is the percentage of students who met the CO target, expressed on a 0–3 attainment level, and the two are combined in that proportion.
Each CO is mapped to the POs it supports using a 1–3 correlation strength. A PO's attainment is the strength-weighted average of the attainment of the COs that map to it, producing a value on the 0–3 scale. A result around 2.2 or higher is generally read as strong alignment, but the target is set by your department.
No. It calculates CO and PO attainment levels from the numbers you enter so you can compile the figures for your files. It does not predict an NBA accreditation outcome, and it is not the Self-Assessment Report itself — the SAR is compiled and submitted through your own institutional process.
Yes, completely free with no login. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored. You can use it whether or not your institution runs CampusAlly.
CampusAlly tags assessments to COs as marks go in, computes CO and PO attainment across every course at your weights, and hands SAR-ready tables to accreditation with proof attached.
