GST on coaching fees calculator

Coaching is a taxable service at 18%. Enter a fee, choose whether it already includes tax, and see the base, the CGST/SGST split and the invoice total — the three numbers every receipt must agree on.

Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. Indicative arithmetic, not financial advice.

The two directions institutes need

Quoting a course at ₹25,000 plus GST is one calculation; promising a parent an all-in ₹25,000 and working out what portion is tax is the other. Both directions appear on the same fee card in real institutes, and mixing them up is the most common receipt error we see: an inclusive promise billed as exclusive quietly overcharges the parent 18%, and the reverse quietly donates your margin.

Where these numbers must match

The same three figures appear on the receipt, in the fee ledger and in the return for the period, and assessments are mostly the art of checking that they agree. If your fee software stamps base, tax and total on every receipt from one setting, agreement is automatic. If receipts are typed, every keystroke is a chance for the three records to drift, which is how boring compliance becomes an expensive afternoon.

Below the threshold?

If the institute is not GST-registered, you charge no GST and this calculator is a preview of life after ₹20 lakh aggregate turnover (₹10 lakh in special-category states). Registration timing, the 6% composition option for small service providers and input credit are covered in the GST guide linked below — with the standing advice to run final decisions past your CA.

Questions this calculator raises

Why 18 percent?

Commercial coaching and training services fall under the standard 18% GST slab. The education exemption covers schools and degree-granting institutions, not private coaching — the full mechanism is in our GST guide.

Inclusive or exclusive — which should my fee card use?

Either works; mixing them does not. Inclusive keeps the sticker simple for parents, exclusive keeps your base comparable with unregistered competitors. Print the choice on the fee card and keep every receipt consistent with it.

Is this CGST plus SGST, or IGST?

Within one state, the 18% splits as 9% CGST plus 9% SGST, which is what the calculator shows. Interstate supply becomes 18% IGST in one line — same total, different boxes on the return.

Receipts that agree with the return.

TutorDesk stamps GSTIN, base, tax and total on every receipt automatically. See it on your fee structure.
